KEEP UP-TO-DATE

Mar 15, 2019

Nearly half of the student body of St. Stephen's -- approximately 170 students-- walked out of school today to protest inaction on the climate crisis humanity currently faces -- an issue which will surely be one of the defining features of their adult lives.

St. Stephen's students join 140 other cities across Itlay and hundreds of thousands of other young people in 1,325 cities in 100 nations around the world in this global protest for change. Head of School Eric Mayer supports this activism, as he believes our young people are inheriting a planet in need, and "business-as-usual" is an insufficient response.

In terms of sustainability, St. Stephen's has made a number of commitments. Long ago, the School adopted an Environmental Systems & Society course in the IB, pays a carbon offset on all school trips, committed to local food sourcing two years ago, and we are the leaders in the new plastic reduction campaign adopted by all the international schools in Rome.
