While not a new theme for St Stephen’s, this year faculty decided that an organized and coordinated school-wide effort needed to be made to explore some of the issues around the reasons of what Amnesty International is referring to as the “worst crisis of our time.”

Last week, students heard a first-hand account of the crisis from Jonathan Dumont, a former parent and Head of Television at WFP, who also shared his photographs in an exhibit at the SSS Cultural Center. Students and the Refugee committee have organized a GoFundMe campaign to bring much needed medical care to an orphan Mr Dumont met int he Congo. And this past Wednesday evening, a football match was organized with a team of Eritreans, who fled their home country under great duress and difficult circumstances to create new lives in their host country of Italy. They met St Stephen’s' team of footballers, scored some goals and had a chance to exchange stories.

Throughout the year, we will be bringing you more stories about the work of the SSS Refugees Committee and hope to also share student impressions about the ongoing crisis.
